What the Student & Diversity Programs Manager does

The Student & Diversity Programs Manager position is key in assisting AGU to promote discovery in Earth and Space science for the benefit of humanity by being operational in focus. The purpose of this position is to lead the operations and planning of AGU Student and Diversity Program activities. The incumbent, in conjunction with additional AGU Talent Pool staff, will manage the execution and optimization of existing AGU student and diversity programs, and will lead the development, promotion and implementation of new initiatives, and additional affiliation and engagement opportunities for AGU student and early career scientist populations year-round.
* Serves as program manager for development and implementation of new AGU Student and Diversity Program initiatives.
* Serves as program manager for developing, promoting and annual execution of the AGU Student Conference, in close coordination with AGU Director of Talent Pool, and AGU Meetings Department.
* Works with the Director, Leadership and Volunteer Services to support the development of student and early career leaders.
* Serves as program officer for AGU Student Travel and Research Grant solicitations.
* Manages budgets and award distributions for grants programs.
* Works with AGU Development and the Director of Talent Pool to scope new funding opportunities for Talent Pool programs and grant solicitations.
* Works with Marketing and Communications to promote programs and to coordinate product/service alignment.
* Ensures effective planning and execution of all student & diversity-related activities at AGU meetings.
* Ensures proper integration and planning of AGU student & diversity programs with relevant Earth and space science talent pool related strategic initiatives.
* Serves on enterprise-wide, cross-functional teams as representative for Talent Pool programs.
* Serves as primary contact and coordinator for ongoing outreach and engagement with AGU network of student volunteers and assures efficient and proactive communications for all student program activities, including coordination with AGU Section Leaders as needed.
* Manages interns and temporary employees as needed.
* Other duties as assigned.

What the Student Diversity Program Manager brings to the team

* 6+ years with BS/BA; MS/MA is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Working knowledge of current hiring processes and best practices in the promotion of diversity, inclusion and equity.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate easily and effectively with both internal and external audiences.
* Demonstrated program management skills and success in leading programmatic activities to successful completion.
* Demonstrated ability to manage projects, budgets and coordination of roles and responsibilities among project teams.
* Strong computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet, and data analysis software.
* Ability to interpret, analyze, organize and apply program policies, and make good decisions without direct daily oversight.
* Experience with an association management system (i.e. netForum), web-conference management software (i.e. GotoWebinar), a learning management system (LMS), and a website content procurement preferred.
* Demonstrated training facilitation skills (training, workshops, and group meetings).
* Strong public speaking skills.
* Demonstrated customer service skills.
* Strong demonstrated leadership skills including track record of managing projects from kickoff through completion, and budget control.
* Excellent change management and presentation skills.
* Ability to facilitate meetings efficiently, effectively, and independently.
* Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Demonstrated skills at leading planning and execution of large-scale programmatic events a must; employment experience in a membership-facing organization strongly preferred.
* Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
