Purpose of the Position

AGU is striving to make two big shifts: 1) evolving from a traditional function-based organization become a collaborative and deeply ‘matrixed’ organization, and 2) moving from a program-focused operational model to a user-focused service model with an emphasis on creating a consistent and unified experience of AGU for all stakeholders. The marketing team plays an essential role in driving and supporting these changes.

The Senior Specialist, Digital Marketing Content understands the science behind good storytelling and the role it plays in an integrated, relationship-based marketing program. In addition to being a creative and user-focused writer the program manager has an acute understanding of the need for a data-driven approach to strategy and decision making. They can view content, it’s development, structure and distribution, across the full scale of a variety of user journeys and use that content to drive awareness, organizational impact and business results.

What the Senior Specialist, Digital Marketing Content does

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Marketing and Advertising, the Senior Specialist demonstrates high degree of collaboration with partners in departments across AGU, as well as the design team and fellow Marketing Team members.

* Implements, executes and measures AGU’s digital marketing content on a day-to-day basis to ensure accurate, consistent, and value-based messaging that delivers results.
* Collaborates with teams across the organization to create and execute data-driven integrated digital marketing strategies and campaigns designed to drive audience development, engagement and conversion, builds word of mouth and a sense of community broadly amongst a wide array of audiences, and effectively nurtures target audiences toward an array of a key marketing goals.
* Analyzes current digital strategies - including advertising, and web and social media content - and consults with various departments to identify areas for potential improvement and cross-promotion/collaboration to help increase engagement and conversions. Working in collaboration with others, and using a variety of data, optimizes digital content to support effective and efficient user journeys, conversions, and marketing automation.
* Supports all digital and traditional marketing efforts as part of an integrated marketing team.
* Represents the organization and interacts with attendees at scientific conferences and exhibits.
* Maintains awareness of the latest trends in marketing and online/digital technologies to improve implementation of marketing tactics for AGU overall.
* Other duties as assigned.

What the Senior Specialist, Digital Marketing Content brings to the team

* 5+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, English, or a related field; or equivalent education and work experience.
* Experience with SEO, data analysis, and audience segmentation strongly preferred.
* Understanding of content structure, metadata, and editorial governance a plus.
* Experience in a membership association/not-for-profit and/or scientific or technical organization preferred.
* Outstanding and creative written and verbal communications skills, and extensive experience writing for a variety of communications channels, from blogs and social media to websites and email campaigns.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, as well as to multi-task and set/balance priorities in an agile manner to address constantly evolving requirements.
* Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork, and customer service skills, and experience working across teams and serving as a liaison with outside vendors and partner organizations.
* Knowledge of standard software programs (including Microsoft Office), association management systems (knowledge of NetForum a plus), content management systems (such as Word Press), and a variety of social media channels and management platforms (including Hootsuite), required. Basic familiarity with Google Analytics, email management programs (such as Real Magnet), enterprise platforms (such as SiteCore), and marketing automation strategies a plus.
* Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
* Ability to think creatively and act proactively to seek opportunities for advancing AGU goals.
* Demonstrated high level of initiative.
* Ability to assist with follow through on commitments and accept ownership of responsibilities and with utmost professionalism.
* Ability to travel.
