What the Program Manager, Membership and Community Engagement does

The Program Manager, Membership & Community Engagement position is key in assisting AGU to promote discovery in Earth and Space science for the benefit of humanity by being operational in focus. The purpose of this position is to build, grow, and manage AGU Connect online community platform, including main member community, section websites and communities, and stakeholder networks.

The Program Manager will increase the visibility, relevance, and enhanced user-experience in AGU’s virtual communities by leveraging industry best practices, content management expertise, and other membership engagement strategies. The incumbent in this role will also be responsible for working directly with AGU sections to develop strategies to increase participation in their virtual networks, and provide frontline, concierge level support for the sections.

* Designs, recommends and implements engagement programs to help provide business outcomes for various teams using online community platform/technology.
* Serves as frontline support (concierge) and subject matter expert for AGU section leaders. Coordinates activities, develops newsletters, plans section events, and assists with section volunteers.
* Works closely with the CMM team to provide valuable content to members and stakeholders that can help drive higher user satisfaction and better outcomes.
* Continuously gathers feedback to shape online community management practices and product ideation across AGU.
* Tracks KPIs (key performance indicators) on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Reports KPIs to internal stakeholders. Adjusts engagement tactics as needed to ensure community hits goals.
* Manages content (e.g. new pages, changes to navigation menus, new communities, user experience, etc.) via online community platform.
* Moderates and monitors AGU Connect platform.
* Manages AGU’s Volunteer Central (online program).
* Works with the web team to address, resolve, and communicate any issues related to the features and functionality of the online community platform.
* Other duties as assigned.

What the Program Manager, Membership and Community Engagement brings to the team
* 6+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Management, Business Administration, or a related field; with at least 2-4 years of project management experience, including working on simultaneous projects; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
* Experience with an association management system (i.e. netForum), web-conference management software (i.e. Zoom), and a website content procurement preferred.
* Experience developing and maintaining online community platform.
* Experience in an association, scientific, or technical organization is a strong plus.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate easily and effectively with both internal and external audiences.
* Demonstrated program management skills and success in leading programmatic activities to successful completion.
* Strong customer service skills.
* Strong computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet, and data analysis software.
* Strong commitment to accuracy and a high level of attention to detail.
* Self-motivated, willing and able to assume additional responsibilities on short notice.
* Results-oriented, excellent ability to utilize and manage the organization's resources to achieve goals.
* Ability to interpret, analyze, organize and apply program policies, and make good decisions without direct daily oversight.
* Excellent change management and presentation skills.
* Ability to facilitate meetings efficiently, effectively, and independently.
* Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
* Ability to travel.
