What the Manager, Organization Development and Training does

The Manager, Organization Development and Training (OD&T) position is key in assisting AGU to advance discovery and solution science that accelerate knowledge and create solutions that are ethical, unbiased and respectful of communities and their values.
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Manager, OD&T, serves as a collaborative partner within the Human Resources department to support transformational change within the diverse, fast-paced, and complex environment of AGU.

The incumbent in this role provides operational support and leadership to AGU management and staff in change management, organization development, workplace culture, leadership development and training, and works in partnership with AGU leadership to orchestrate workplace development programs and organization change initiatives that align with the organizational strategic plan.

Additionally, this position is responsible for the Learning Management system and the Talent Calibration processes of AGU, including design, delivery and implementation of training and organization development programs and tools, and measuring their impact and success.

* Provides expertise in contemporary practices in the areas of organization development and human resources systems, performance management, organization design and change management in alignment with organization vision and values
* Manages and implements the Agile performance management process and system, including working with managers and employees to set SMART goals aligned with AGU’s strategic plan, provides constructive feedback, and continues to improve the process so it meets the needs of the organization.
* In collaboration and under the direction of the Human Resources Director, assesses and evolves the organizational culture, building on the dedication to the mission of the American Geophysical Union. Provides necessary recommendations on changes to accomplish strategic organizational goals and objectives.
* In collaboration with and under the direction of the Human Resources Director, designs, implements and facilitates AGU-wide training and organization development initiatives, programs and models.
* Conducts learning needs assessments to determine knowledge, skills and behavior requirements. Manages the learning and development process to include vendor management, program creation/administration, communication, content delivery and management. Measures, analyzes, and communicates learning and development trends, strengths and opportunities.
* Consults with AGU managers to address the learning and development needs of their staff and implement relevant solutions to improve performance at all levels.
* Supports the development of people management skills for both new and more experienced managers and supervisors.
* Leads the identification and tracking of key learning and development metrics to determine overall effectiveness of various initiatives.
* Evaluates new and existing training and development programs for effectiveness, cost/benefit, and business impact, and provides necessary recommendations to Director, Human Resources.
* Partners with Director, Human Resources on vendor selection and contract negotiations and administers consultant contracts for training and organization development programs.
* Supports Talent Management initiatives through support of workforce planning, conducting skills assessments, and ensuring a robust AGU Academy Curriculum. Conducts training/presentations as needed.
* In collaboration with the Director, Human Resources, leads design and development of AGU succession plan.
* Supports AGU’s employment branding and efforts to become an "employer of choice" and "best place to work."
* Supports the HR department to develop and/or enhance policies, procedures and systems.
* Assist Director, Human Resources with special projects as needed.
* Other duties as assigned.

What the Manager, Organization Development and Training brings to the team
* 8+ years of experience in organization development and training program instructional design with Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management (with a concentration in Organization Development & Training), Business Administration, Communications or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Minimum of 3 years’ hands on experience developing and delivering Organization Development programs (e.g. Competencies, Strategic Workforce Planning, Succession Planning, Assessments and Surveys, Engagement, 360’s).
* Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or ATD Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) or Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) certification strongly preferred; ability to otherwise attain a certification credential within one year required.
* Experienced in developing and implementing assessment tools.
* Experience using applicable diagnostic organization development tools.
* Experience with AMS, LMS, event registration software programs, and website content management systems is strongly desired. a
* Previous experience working in a membership organization environment is preferred.

* Ability to analyze and assess training and development needs.
* Knowledge of computerized information systems used in human resources applications. Strong knowledge of MS Office is required.
* The ability to understand business goals and recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity and development of HR within the company (Business Acumen).
* Proven knowledge on the application of contemporary HR practices and strategies, such as, strategic workforce planning, performance management, EEO, diversity and organizational change and reviews.
* Proven ability to adapt and manage change in a complex and often challenging work environment.
* Highly developed interpersonal, emotional intelligence and communication (oral and written) skills.
* Strong managerial skills.
* Discreet and Ethical conduct on confidential matters
* Demonstrated attention to detail, multi-tasking, and the ability to follow through.
* Skilled at presenting recommendations and influencing senior leaders
* Strategic thinker AND can execute and deliver on assignments and achieve results
