What the Assistant Director, Media, and Public Relations does:

  • Relationship-building with science and mainstream media outlets, reporters, freelancers, bloggers, scientists, and institutional and agency senior staff and public Information officers.
  • Develops and manages budget and contracts, initiates multimedia experiences and experiments to enrich AGU content, oversees AGU’s three journalism awards, and carries out special projects and other ad hoc assignments, as needed.
  • Drives external promotion of AGU’s science and global initiatives.
  • Leads and nurtures a team of communications specialists that develops, coordinates, and executes publicity campaigns, strategic communications, and outreach for the organization’s research.
  • Oversees extensive press operations.
